Options / Visuals / Side-by-Side View

opt_SideBySide

This page allows you to customize the appearance of the side-by-side SQL comparison panel.  It doesn't require much explaining, as any change you do here is immediately reflected in the "Preview" panel.  The side-by-side font can be changed either here or on the general Fonts page.

"Where are all the other options you had before?"  If you used earlier versions of AdeptSQL Diff, you might remember that there used to be a separate configuration dialog for the side-by-side view with a lot more options than there are now.  These options are now gone, and here is why: The Diff has always used a modification of a third-party text comparison component for the textual comparison and the side-by-side display. In earlier versions, the Diff also used the options dialog that originally came with that component, with very little changes.  However,  many options that make sense for a general-purpose text comparer are irrelevant or obscure when all that's needed is to compare two relatively small pieces of generated SQL code.  Other settings (such as tab size or case sensitivity) duplicated similar options elsewhere in the Diff.  As of AdeptSQL Diff 1.97 Build 100,  the configuration of the side-by-side SQL comparison view has been greatly simplified and the remaining settings (those controlling the visual appearance of the side-by-side panel) have been integrated into the Options dialog.

Here are some other settings that affect the side-by-side comparison:

· Case-sensitivity and spacing-sensitivity in Options/Comparison/Textual Comparison
· Tab size in the Editor Options dialog.
· Line weights in ASQLDIFF.LWS file (this is a text file with some useful comments inside).
