AdeptSQl Diff versions

Top  Previous  Next

AdeptSQL Diff has been around for quite a while.  The first, rather naive version of the product appeared in October 2003, since then we have continually improved the Diff. The most recent version, at the time of writing this, is AdeptSQL Diff 1.96 Build 99.   If you have anything older than this, please update your copy.

The most recent version of AdeptSQL Diff can always be downloaded at:

http://www.adeptsql.com/download.htm

Starting from version 1.70  (released in January 2005), we have been keeping a very detailed history of all changes and improvements in the program. A link to the document is available on the download page above; it is also installed with the Diff as the WhatsNew.htm file.  This is a rather lengthy document, but may be worth reading if you are updating from an earlier Diff version and want to see what you've been missing.

The best way to see if your version of Diff is up to date is by using the  "Help/Check Updates" command in Diff's main menu.

It is our policy to support only the most recent release of the program.  This means that if you encounter what looks like a problem in the Diff, please be sure you have the most recent version before contacting us.

"Windows Server 2008" vs. "Classic" editions of AdeptSQL Diff

Starting from version 1.96, AdeptSQL Diff comes in two different "editions", which are identical in all except the activation key format. The story is that the 3rd-party DRM-wrapper subsystem used in all previous Diff versions is not compatible with the latest generation of Microsoft operating systems.  It definitely doesn't work in Windows Server 2008 and it is not guaranteed to work (although usually it does) on Vista.

The newer DRM subsystem that is used in the "WS2008" edition works correctly on all versions of MS Windows.  Unfortunately, it requires activation keys in a totally different format.  It makes no difference for new users, but forcing all existing customers to replace activation keys would be a major inconvenience.  So we decided that from now on, both flavors of Diff 1.XX setup will be updated simultaneously.

Registered users can either keep updating to the "classic" version, or install the Diff from "WS2008" setup and then request a new activation key, free of charge, using the "Request a key" button in program's "Register/Upgrade key" dialog.

Similarly, new users buying any AdeptSQL Diff license may choose either of the setups and request the appropriate activation key. Please note that, at the time of writing this, the automatic keys generation at the time of purchase is only supported for the "classic" version.

We do plan to switch entirely to the new activation key format in the upcoming Diff 2.0 version
